Impact of Horticultural Activites to the Wellbeing of Plantsmen during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Area of Research
Abstract
The objective of this study is to determine whether horicultural activities have a noticeable effect on plantsmen's wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employed a discriptive phenomenological research design to ascertain the impact of horticultural activites and determine its relevance in terms of reducing individuals's stress levels. The research subjects were ten (10) individuals who are directly involved in plants and horticultural activities, were allowed to participate in the study. The researcher designed a set of open-ended interview questions to identify the mental health benefits of horticultural activites during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection was carried out through online phasing. A thematic analysis was then used to evaluate the responses. The researcher hypothesized that people who have more exposure to horticultural activites will be less influenced by the COVID-19 mental health consequences. Likewise, the descriptive findings of the study may contribute to the development of mental health initiatives that emphasize nonpharmacological treatment practices and the use of plants and horticulture activites as means of therapeutic exercise.
