IMPACT OF EXCESSIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO THE EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF YOUNG ADULTS

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the impact of excessive use of social media on the emotional well-being of young adults. The study population was composed of students from 1st year to 4th-year College from Manuel S. Enverga University in Lucena City. The primary purpose of this research was to conclude that there is a significant correlation between young adult social media usage and social media identity, precisely self-image and self-esteem. The study uses a descriptive type of research. A quota sampling technique was used for the researcher to quickly, effectively, and comfortably hit the sample in a short period. The piece was then composed of precisely 100 young adults from Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Lucena Branch A percentage formula was used to graph the findings of the respondets' demographic profiles. a Weighted mean formula was also used to tally the average responses of the respondents. Additionally, a Likert scale was used to group the respondents; responses answers. In contrast, a bivariate person correlation formula was used together with the t statistics formula for correlation to conclute that theire is a significant correlation between social media usage and social media identities. The researcher later found out that there is no significant correlation betweek social media usage and self-image. However, the researcher later found a weak negative correlation between social media usage and self-esteem. As young adults' social media usage increases, their self-esteem decreases slightly.
