STRATEGIES EMPLOYED BY THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN ENGAGING CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY-BASED ACTIVITIES

Abstract
The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the strategies employed by the local government in engaging citizen participation in community-based activities. Specifically, this study determined the community engagement strategies that the government employed, the citizens' level of participation in community activities, the problems in engaging citizen participation, and the level of effectiveness of strategies employed by the local government in terms of community-based activities. this study used descriptive research design, the instrument that been used is survey questionnaire to measure the effectiveness of the strategis in engaging citizen participation, with the use of printed likert scale survey. The researcher chose 100 respondents of Brgy. Kinatakutan, Tagkawayan, Quezon.
Result revealed that most of the identified strategies were sometimes used by the local government to engage citizen in community activities. Also citizen of Barangay Kinatakutan have a high level of participation with regard to community activities employed by the local government. Importantly, strategies employed by the local government have a high level of effectiveness to the citizen of Barangay Kinatakutan in terms of community activities, However, common problem encountered by the local government during the conduct of the community activity were identified in the study; there were negative comments about the activites; and they cannot attend due to house responsibility.
