I'M ALMOST DEAD: NOMOPHOBIA IN THE MINDS OF THE STUDENTS OF THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES OF MSEUF
Area of Research
Abstract
This study aimed to research the prevalence and perceived effects of nomophobia in the
minds of the students of the College of Arts and Sciences of MSEUF. This is a quantitative
study that utilized an exploratory approach and the population of the study’s respondents
was determined using a convenience sampling method. The data collected was derived
from the answers of the respondents in the 7-part questionnaire formulated by the
researcher for this study and will be analyzed using Frequency counts, Percentages, and
Pearson product moment correlation. Based on the study's findings, Nomophobia was
believed to be unaffecting both the sense of being and the emotional stability of the
respondents but emotional stability was affecting the sense of being of the respondents
which leads to the development of nomophobia. Asides from this, it was found that 1 in 5
of the respondents had severe levels of nomophobia while 2 in 3 had moderate levels of
nomophobia. Additionally, it was also found that being under the demographic profile of
females and having a lower income increased their susceptibility to developing
nomophobia. Attending psycho-educative programs about nomophobia to increase the
students and faculty’s awareness and experiencing programs mediated by the Psychological Society can help in reducing regular smartphone use are two strategies that
may help lower the prevalence of nomophobia among College of Arts and Sciences
students.
