PERCEIVED IMPACTS OF IMPOSTOR PHENOMENON ON MOTIVATION AND SELF-ESTEEM AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS

Abstract
Impostor Phenomenon/syndrome is a more prevalent pattern of behavior than one might assume.
Everyone is subject to Impostor Phenomenon if they fail to internalize their successes and
accomplishments. The present study focused on Impostor Syndrome as experienced by Filipino
College students. The respondents are the selected college students enrolled in the academic year
2022-2023 from the college departments at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation. This
study seeks to investigate the perceived impacts of Impostor Syndrome on the motivation and
self-esteem of college students. The researcher utilized the quantitative-descriptive method of
research as it is appropriate to the nature of the study, the researcher will use a three (5) part
structured type questionnaire to collect the necessary information to accomplish the objectives of
the study. This study examined Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation undergraduate
students in the academic year 2022-2023 and conducted on August 2022–May 2023. The
quantitative-descriptive study uses impostor syndrome, motivation, and self-esteem. This study
include 120 fourth-year college students in MSEUF college departments from an estimated 1500
students. A college career counseling program, called as Competence and Career: A career
planning program will serve as the output of this study and will be beneficial to college students’ achievement and satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, the respondents sometimes
experience impostor phenomenon. This suggests that college students have an evident impostor
characteristic based on the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale. It is revealed that the Super
person type of impostor phenomenon is prevalent in college students. The results indicate that
the respondents have a high level of self-esteem based on Rosenberg self-esteem scale.
Moreover, the results have shown that the respondents find that they are motivated to work
harder when they are recognized for their accomplishments and offered constructive criticism.
The final part of the analysis revealed that self-esteem has no direct association with the
respondent’s impostor syndrome.
