PEOPLE'S PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES IN BRGY. CALUMPANG, TAYABAS CITY, QUEZON

Abstract
Participation in local government programs and initiatives had significant effects
on the people who take part in those activities. This study aimed to assess the people's
participation in local government programs and initiatives by determining the reasons,
benefits, and challenges which are experienced by those who cooperate in government
programs. Descriptive research was used in the assessment without manipulating the
variables. Fifty-two (52) residents of Brgy. Calumpang, Tayabas City, Quezon were
chosen to participate in the survey. Data collected in the process were utilized through
weighted average mean (WAM). The results show that 35-40 years old have the highest
level of participation in local government programs and most of them have a fair level of
participation. The study found out that people participate because want to improve the
society and community. Participating in local government programs gave the opportunity
of becoming an active citizens, while disagreeing that taking part in those activities
posed monetary constraints.
