Area of Research
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the coping strategies and students’ engagement among senior high school students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. A quantitative approach -descriptive-correlation design was utilized which involved 1154 senior high school students in Gumaca National High School. They were enrolled in the S.Y. 2021-2022 and were chosen through complete enumeration. The researcher used standardized tests such as the Filipino Coping Strategies Scale (FCS) and Student Engagement Instrument (SEI) were used as bases for the analysis and interpretation of the coping strategies and student engagement of the senior high school students. The gathered data were analyzed and interpreted using frequency-percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation, Independent Sample T-Test, One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA), and Pearson R Correlation. Findings reveal that the majority of the respondents are in the adolescence stage ages of 17-18, female, Catholic, have low family income, and live with their biological parents. Most of the obtained demographic profiles are vulnerable to coping and engagement of the respondents. An association of the coping strategies and student engagement was found. Data attest to the need to take the appropriate steps and intervene through a homeroom guidance program to strengthen the coping strategies and students’ engagement competencies among students so they can thrive in difficult situations.
