A PROPOSED SARIAYA’S GENDER DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Completed2023

Abstract

Discrimination goes to the heart of what it means to be human. Someone's rights are violated simply because of who they are or their beliefs. Discrimination is harmful and contributes to inequity (Philippine Statistics Authority, 2014). Thus, as Filipino, we must take the initiative to provide a better place and environment to take care of them. According to the 2013 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), one in every five women aged 15 to 49 has experienced physical violence since age 15. The same outcome was seen in the 2008 NDHS. In the 2013 and 2008 NDHS, women aged 15 to 49 experienced physical violence in the previous 12 months at a rate of 5.6% and 7.3%, respectively (Philippine Statistics Authority, 2014). Through the proposed Gender and Development Center, those who need healing or seeking mental peace can be accommodated and addressed. It also aims to help individual development through art, leisure, education, and culture and provide a better place and environment for all individuals to have social interaction without the fear of being discriminated against. Moreover, this project will support the efficient and effective mainstreaming of gender plans, programs, and activities. Discrimination is alive and well in society. We do not address many of them because we have decided to accept them. This proposed Gender and Development Center will be located in Sariaya, Quezon, and will provide an architectural solution to these matters by selecting needed facilities that use a sustainable design approach and Healing architecture.
