HIRAYA: A PROPOSED SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Area of Research
Abstract
The study proposes to design a sustainable community library in the municipality of
Lucena. A library serving the city's residents is needed as its population continues to climb.
There are currently only two outdated libraries in the city, even those with limited capacity.
Consequently, this may impact citizens' access to books and other crucial information and
resources required for their academic and professional endeavors. In addition, these
libraries don't support the nation's and the city's current efforts to be sustainable. As Sands
(2002) stated, studies have revealed the psychological and physiological effects buildings
can have on people. Therefore, libraries' sustainability is becoming increasingly essential to
enhance environmental performance, energy efficiency, and occupant well-being. The
citizens of Lucena are the researcher’s intended respondents, and they shall indicate their
opinions about the study. These include why the city needs a more advanced and
sustainable library, especially for students and professionals, to cater to them. The
Quantitative method will be applied, which shall use surveys. Through the given results, the
study will seek to uncover the citizens' standards, needs, priorities, requirements, and insights on what they expect from a sustainable and advanced community library. In the
embarking of the study, the research sought to provide cumulative data on designing a
sustainable community library for Lucena’s citizens and contributing to human civilization.
