A PROPOSED SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO PUBLIC LIBRARY IN PAGBILAO, QUEZON

Completed2023

Abstract

The Municipality of Pagbilao has eighteen elementary schools, five high schools, three tertiary schools, and one municipal library with limited capacity. The researcher proposes the study due to the crowded municipal library space, lack of resources for professionals and educational use, and the area's environment (CLUP of Pagbilao, 2013). The proposed sustainable approach of the public library is a structure with enough space for its users, proper circulation of different areas, a modern and sustainable design that will provide free book reading facilities to all, grow healthy readership at all levels, disseminate knowledge on all subjects and topics, collect and preserve documents, and provide countless learning opportunities (DLS, 2022). Furthermore, according to Sands (n.d.), numerous studies have shown that strategies to reduce a building's environmental impact have additional benefits for improved occupant health and energy efficiency. Therefore, communities with the option of building a new library or renovating an existing one should prioritize sustainable design measures. Libraries designed to last must be adaptable to changing functional demands, provide an inspiring and safe environment, and perform efficiently, providing significant financial value to the community that supported their creation (Sands, n.d.). The residents of Pagbilao are the researcher's intended respondents and will indicate their opinions about the study. This study will use the qualitative method, including observations and focused individual interviews with essential sources. At the beginning of this study, the research will provide data for designing a sustainable library approach in Pagbilao.
