Teachers' Perceptions on Using Digital Storytelling Method in Teaching Philippine Myths as Revealed by the Selected English Teachers in the Selected Schools in Pagbilao and Lucena City

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the teachers’ perceptions of the effectiveness of digital storytelling, the difficulties being encountered by the teachers in using digital storytelling, and the factors influencing the teachers on using digital storytelling as a method of teaching. This study utilized the quantitative method employing the descriptive method of research. The respondents of this study were selected grade 7 teachers who have been using digital storytelling methods in teaching Philippine myths in the selected schools in Pagbilao and Lucena City. The data was collected, analyzed, and interpreted using percentage and weighted mean methods, with the weighted mean using four Likert scales. Along with its objective, the researcher concluded that using digital storytelling as a method of teaching Philippine myths is highly effective as it helps the students learn about Philippine myths because stories are easy to remember, one of the problems encountered by teachers on using digital storytelling in teaching is poor internet connectivity which affects the teaching and learning process, and digital storytelling is one of the innovative pedagogical approaches that engage students in learning, a factor influencing teachers to use digital storytelling method in teaching. For the researcher’s recommendations, the teachers should imply digital storytelling as a method of teaching, as it’s an effective way for learners to be active in participatory, the schools should adopt integrating technologies in the teaching and learning process, and future researchers must promote using digital storytelling by making a study that would focus the benefits of it in teaching and learning process.
