CHILDREN LITERACY: EMPOWERING AND INSTILLING INTEREST IN READING TO CHILDREN WITH AGES 2 TO 7 YEARS OLD AS A ROLE OF SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

Abstract
The research aimed to determine the demographic profile of librarians and their level
of awareness regarding children's literacy. This study discussed the impact of the
environment on the reading literacy of the children and the practices and strategies of a
school librarian in empowering the interest of reading children. This study will not only
benefit librarians but also elementary teachers, parents, as well as storytellers for they will
gain ideas and techniques on what to do to develop their children's literacy. This study
used descriptive quantitative research and was conducted via google forms, survey forms
are distributed to 20 chosen librarians that have experience in literacy. This research used
a purposive sampling of twenty (20) selected librarians in Lucena City. Descriptive
statistics was used for the analysis of the data gathered was descriptive statistics for the
quantitative data. As the result, the possible signs of reading literacy development and has
provided possible techniques in terms of language and culture and best practices and strategies to help empower and instill interest in reading to children. Furthermore, the
researcher created an infographic that contains the results of the study.
