Abstract

This study aimed to know the Librarians’ Role in Addressing Information Overload as perceived by BLIS students at Manuel S Enverga University Foundation. Moreover, it sought answers to the following specific questions: What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age and year; What are the difficulties encountered by the BLIS students in searching for relevant information; What are the strategies used in coping information overload; What are the roles of librarian in giving the right information to the users. The main subject of this study is the BLIS students who will be a librarian in the future. Also, their presence in realizing how important to have a librarian in the library when giving the right information to the users has a big impact. An online survey questionnaire was used to gather useful information. The study showed that respondents experience difficulties in acquiring materials because some materials are not included in the free access. Also, the study revealed that searching for information using keywords in searching are the main strategies to find results easily. Also, the study showed that librarians' role is being an advisor and an educator. Overall, the findings of this study concluded that librarians’ role to addressed information overload was to be an educator. Results of the various analysis suggest that library personnel must create an informational video on how to search effectively when using electronic resources in the library that can be posted on their page. Meanwhile, the output of this study is an informative brochure that covers librarians as an educator and their main role in how to search effectively that answers to address information overload.
