The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Mental Health among the Library Staff of MSEUF

Abstract
The outbreak of COVID-19 affected the lives of all sections of society as
people were asked to self-quarantine in their homes to prevent the spread of the
virus. The study aimed to determine the impact of the covid-19 on the mental
health of the library staff of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation.
Specifically, it answered the following questions: the demographic profile of the
respondents in terms of age, sex, and position; the coping strategies of library
staff: the impacts of covid-19 on mental health in terms of; Professional and
Personal Activities, mental health and social relationships, impact on employment, spreading
awareness and information, and sharing knowledge.
To facilitate this study, this utilized the normative survey method of research
with a self-made questionnaire as an instrument to gather data. The respondents
of the study were the 15-library staff however only 13 represented the Manuel S.
Enverga University Foundation. The researcher used a complete enumeration in
the selection of the respondents. The percentage formula was used to quantify the
demographic profile of the respondents. To answer the coping strategies and
impact of covid-19 on mental health, the weighted arithmetic mean was used.
Results show that the majority of the respondents were LIS professionals and had
been in the profession for not more than 3 years. This also reveals that Manuel S.
Enverga University Foundation Library Staff has the WAM 4.20 verbally described
as often on coping strategies while in the impact of Covid-19 on mental health in
terms of professional and personal activities, mental health and social
relationships, impact on employment, spreading awareness and information and
sharing knowledge are described as verbally positive. The output developed was
based on the findings of the study, however did not cover other problems for they
are not considered having the mental health problems. Thus, it is highly
recommended that the university library should utilize the output of the study which aids the impact of the covid 19 on mental health among the library
staff of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation.
