Completed2023

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the learning styles and preferred learning modalities of maritime students in the new normal. The researchers used a quantitative descriptive research design to attain the objectives of the study. To select the one hundred respondents, the researchers used a purposive sampling design. The data gathered from the respondents was collected, tallied, and analyzed using the appropriate statistical tools. This paper highlighted the learning styles of maritime students in terms of visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. It also highlighted the factors that affect the preferences of maritime students towards their learning modality concerning peers, family, financial costs, and location. The researchers determined if there were significant differences in the responses when grouped according to the preferred learning modality. Moreover, the researchers found that the majority of maritime students leaned toward the face-to-face learning modality. It also revealed that the majority of maritime students are auditory learners, and location is the number one factor that affects their preference for their learning modality. Furthermore, the researchers found that there are no significant differences in perceived learning styles when responses are grouped by preferred learning modality. On the other hand, it was found that there is a significant difference in the perceived factors that affect the preferences of the students concerning the family. Hence, learning style and preferred learning modality were necessary to know to help students learn better.
