GENDER DISCRIMINATION AMONG WOMEN SEAFARERS OR CADETS IN MARITIME INDUSTRY
Abstract
This research study aimed to determine the perceptions of women seafarers or cadets in
the maritime industry regarding gender discrimination and the ways to cope with and
address the matter. It also seeks to encourage more women in the maritime. It examined
the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age and rank or position. Together
with the reasons for prevalent gender-based discrimination, the impacts on women
seafarers, and the ways to cope and address the problem. The research’s hypothesis is
there is no significant relationship between gender-based discrimination and women
seafarers. The researchers used a descriptive research design and employed a purposive sampling method that used six (6) respondents from women seafarers or cadets. The
sample was divided into six (6) respondents from random women seafarers or cadets.
