HIGH RISK, HIGH REWARD: PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS ON SELFDEVELOPMENT UPON JOINING MARITIME STUDENT ORGANIZATION IN MANUEL S. ENVERGA UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION

Abstract
The study identified the perception of cadets in joining different student organizations while
they are studying at the College of Maritime Education. The approach that the researchers
utilized is qualitative. The interview was conducted through online platforms like Google
Meetings and Zoom Meeting. The researchers conclude that joining a school organization can
lead to a positive outcome in long-term goal development. Based on the findings, being involved
in such an organization can improve soft skills: time management, self-discipline, working under
pressure, multi-tasking, confidence, and leadership that can help them in their future
employment. Joining a maritime student organization not only serves as an indescribable experience but can also be a source of socialization and belongingness to showcase or enhance
your leadership skill in preparation for future employment.
