Level of Preparedness of Local Government Unit (LGU) of Unisan, Quezon to the Disaster and Calamity

The researchers conducted a study titled “Level of Preparedness of Local Government Unit (LGU) of Unisan, Quezon to the Disaster and Calamity” to determine how prepared the locality of Unisan was during the time of disaster and calamity. The purpose of this research is to determine the level of preparedness of the locality of Unisan for disaster and calamity and provide awareness for the local government unit and citizens of Unisan about the status of the locality in terms of disaster and calamity preparedness and management. This research has the objective of identifying the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of their local position and year of residency. This research also identified the possible issues and perceived problems that may be encountered by the local government during the disaster and calamities and it determined the level of preparedness in disaster and risk management of the locality in terms of the operational and strategic planning and also the availability of equipment and resources. The methodologies of this research are quantitative approach as research design, the researchers used questionnaires as their research instrument and used purposive sampling as sampling technique and procedure for data collection. General Average Mean was used as a formula to analyze and evaluate the data with a corresponding verbal interpretation that corresponds to the given general and weighted average mean. The data evaluated shows that the most serious issue and perceived problems encountered by the locality of Unisan is typhoon and the lack of personnel and MDRRMO officers of the locality and the least problem is an earthquake. The results of this research show that the locality of Unisan, Quezon has a high level of preparedness in the overall aspects, also locality has a high level of preparedness in terms of operational and strategical planning in providing survival kits and early information followed by conducting drills in different disaster and calamities and the least operational and strategical plan is relief goods and other supplies can be easily transmitted. This research shows that the locality has a high level of preparedness in terms of the availability of equipment and resources especially in terms of the medical teams are well trained and prepared in the occurrence of disaster and calamity but in terms of enough ambulances, ambulances are in good condition and medical supplies are enough and sufficient in the occurrence of calamity and these two got the least average mean. The researchers concluded that the locality of Unisan has a high overall preparedness for disaster and calamity.
