EFFECTIVENESS OF USING BODY-WORN CAMERA IN CONDUCTING RAIDS AND BUY-BUST OPERATIONS IN LUCENA CITY

This study aimed at determining the effectiveness of using body-worn camera in conducting raids and buy-bust operations in Lucena City using the descriptive method of research. The data gathered were analyzed using Weighted Arithmetic Mean (WAM). The subjects of the study were the 30 selected law enforcers and 30 persons from the community in Lucena City chosen through purposive sampling technique. Moreover, the study used the System Theory Approach which consists of three frames to determine the effectiveness of using body-worn cameras in conducting raids and buy-bust operations in Lucena City. The study sought to determine the perception of the respondents on the effectiveness of using body-worn cameras in conducting raids and buy-bust operations in Lucena City; the problems encountered by the respondents on the use of body-worn cameras in conducting raids and buy-bust operations; and the level of awareness of the respondents on the use of body-worn cameras in conducting raids and buy-bust operations. The statements are to be answered by the respondents as strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree. The findings of this research indicate that law enforcers perceived that body-worn cameras improve law enforcement legitimacy. They also perceived that people are more reluctant to give information when they know that they are being videotaped. They also know the parts of the body where law enforcers put body-worn cameras. Moreover, the community perceived that body-worn cameras give additional support that can be presented as a shred of strong necessary evidence. They also perceived that cameras are controlled by the officers and they also know the importance of using body-worn cameras during raids and buy-bust operations. A brochure containing information about body-worn cameras that will give police and law enforcement agencies a deeper understanding and realization of the use of body cameras in conducting raids and buy-bust operations was the output of the study.
