EXPLORING THE EXPERIENCES OF ADOLESCENTS IN EARLY MOTHERHOOD

Abstract
This study focused on the experiences of adolescent mothers in early motherhood. This study used a qualitative design to describe the experiences of adolescent mothers as they transition from adolescence to pregnancy and motherhood. Participants were adolescent mothers who were pregnant when they were in their adolescent years and who lived in San Juan, Batangas, and Mauban, Quezon. The researchers interviewed the research participants, who were adolescent mothers aged 18 to 21 only. The total number of respondents was 15. They were interviewed using an interview guide for approximately 60 minutes as part of the data-gathering procedure. It was transcribed and translated into field texts to achieve the necessary coding and identification of themes. Results show that social support is a crucial factor. The adolescent mothers simultaneously faced multiple developmental challenges related to the transition into adulthood, pregnancy, and mothering responsibilities. They frequently need help from their families and relatives to care for their infants. Social support from their parents and partners was one aspect that may have helped in the formation of a positive self-perception of adolescent
