A Design of a Prestressed Concrete Pedestrian Overpass In Barangay Gulang-Gulang, Lucena City
Area of Research
Abstract
Seeing the fast growing population of cars and other motor vehicles in the country
which causes more traffic and accidents. Reckless drivers hitting cars, trucks, buses and
pedestrians; pedestrians being irresponsible in crossing streets. Pedestrians has no way on
highways, a vertical structure that would help them to cross safely and comfortable is a need.
The main objective of this study is to develop a pedestrian overpass that could help
people in crossing without getting bumped and minimizing the volume of traffic and road
accidents.
The study focus to the development of a prestressed concrete pedestrian overpass
based on different codes, standards and specification, design computations using National
Structural Code of the Philippines, National Building Code of the Philippines, DPWH
Manual, ACI 318-11, existing laws and regulation in Lucena City. The estimated cost of the
project is ? 13,032,630.27.
After collecting all the data needed in analyzing the structure, the researchers found out
that the structural components of the overpass are over designed but can carry the loads subjected
to it.
To sum it up, the researchers believe that this pedestrian overpass is appropriate to be
constructed in the proposed location for the benefits of the pedestrians.
