COUNSELING SEEKING BEHAVIOR AND COPING MECHANISMS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

This research addresses the needs of Senior High School students of Lucena City, Quezon province in identifying the problems and issues in counseling seeking behavior and their coping mechanisms. It also aims to identify the problem in counseling seeking inside a school aligned to the guidance program for students. This study used quantitative approach, with survey questionnaire as data gathering instrument. The study revealed that the respondents perceived that the guidance counselor provides a comprehensive and respectful response to a client or counselee. This statement implies that the guidance counselor offers respects and meaningful experience to senior high school student respondents. The counselors and mental health providers perform a wide range of developmental and preventive tasks and responses which allows the students to develop a positive perception in seeking counseling to mental health providers. The study recommends the development and implementation of awareness campaigns and initiatives that promote mental health and well-being among senior high school students.
