Farm Tourism Resilience amidst COVID-19 towards its Sustainability: Basis for Developing Management Strategies

Abstract

The study aimed to develop management strategies for DOT accredited farm tourism destinations in Quezon Province to ensure the resiliency of their attraction amid the pandemic towards its sustainability. It was done through a qualitative approach and the management strategies developed were justified from the interview of the participants of the selected farm tourism destinations. The data obtained were subjected to thematic network analysis to interpret its context. The research focused on developing management strategies and farm tourism resilience amidst the COVID-19 pandemic towards its sustainability, as well as its implications and challenges in terms of social, economic, and environmental factors. It introduced important aspects in farm tourism such as agroecological practices that strengthen its resiliency and sustainability. At the end of the study, the business profiles of the farm sites were revealed and are mostly family owned, and usually offer organic products, training, and serve as a venue for events and special occasions. It has been seen that farm tourism contributed to economic sustainability, uplifting livelihood, and environmental sustainability. Farm sites adapted agroecological farming practices that helped their operations and used management strategies to reach their goals. Local governments were also supportive through programs and activities to ensure promotion of resiliency and sustainability. The researchers concluded that the selected farm tourism destinations attained resiliency amidst COVID-19 towards its sustainability. To achieve resilience and sustainability, management strategies were developed to be used as a guide and approach for the existing and potential farm tourism destinations.
