LEVEL OF COMPETENCY IN TEACHING EPP/TLE OF INTERMEDIATE TEACHERS IN POLILLO AND BURDEOS DISTRICTS

Abstract
This study focused on the level of competency of intermediate teachers in
teaching EPP/TLE in Polillo and Burdeos Districts. It aimed to determine the
profile of the TLE teacher-respondents, examine the level of competency of the
intermediate teachers in teaching EPP/TLE in terms of ICT, Entrepreneurship,
Agriculture, Home Economics and Industrial Arts, identify the factors that affect
teaching competencies of intermediate teachers in teaching TLE, and find out he
significant relationship between the level of competency and the demographic
profile of the respondents. This quantitative study used descriptive survey method.
It is limited to 117 intermediate teachers teaching TLE subject in Polillo and
Burdeos Districts. Frequency, weighted mean and Spearman rank order
correlation were utilized as statistical treatment.
Results revealed that the intermediate teachers were very competent in
handling home economics and agriculture and competent in industrial arts and ICT
and entrepreneurship. The teachers’ competencies in handling ICT and
entrepreneurship, agriculture, and industrial arts differed when they are grouped
as to age, gender, educational attainment, and years of experience. However, their competency in home economics did not differ as to age, educational attainment,
and years of experience as it is more affected by their gender. The factors
affecting their competency in teaching EPP/TLE include lack of materials needed
to form lessons; insufficient budget for laboratories; lack of trainings specifically for
Industrial Arts; lack of training for teacher’s creativity in applying the skills needed
in TLE; and lack of funds of school to support the school facilities for the tools and
materials in TLE/EPP.
