Assessment on the Implementation of Executive Order No. 26 “Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-Free Environments in Public and Enclosed Places

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the anti-smoking law or Executive Order No.26 specifically to Lucena City especially on smoking in a public and enclosed area with people considered as secondhand smokers. Second-hand smoke is dangerous to the health because it can cause lung problems, emphysema, and other disease related to the lung. In the fast study, the World Health Organization (WHO) has determined and examined that smoking is also give bad effects on our environment. Executive Order no. 26 was established to support the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999 that the people are aware of, and need to comply with this act written in our law because smoking is not only a cause of disease but also cause of negative impact in our environment. This study focused on the awareness of the people that smoking in public places is prohibited and give the information that smoking is the cause of different diseases, and is not good for the health of every people even to the non-smokers who inhale the smoke of the cigarettes. In this perspective, the researchers utilized the descriptive survey method of research and distribute the questionnaire to the respondents of Lucena City. This study gives warning to all that if they smoke in the public, they will face the fine that was written in Executive Order No. 26.
