COMPENSATION OF SECURITY GUARDS IN PRIVATE SECURITY AGENCIES AND ITS EFFECT ON THEIR WORK PERFORMANCE
Area of Research
Abstract
The current research is the study on the compensation of security guards in
private security agencies and its effect on their work performance; the purpose of this
study is to determine if security guards encounter problems with their current
compensation. The respondents included in this study are the security guards employed
by the private security agencies inside the UPLB Campus and the nearby
establishments around the campus. The study utilized the descriptive type of method
that aims to determine common problems encountered in the compensation received by
the respondents. The research expects to help the security guards to think of other
ways to cope with the needs of their families that may also affect their performance at
work, and the researcher handed survey questionnaires to 100 security guards
assigned inside the campus with an existing contract with the university and security
guards from other security agencies assigned in different establishment surrounding the
campus. The main security force of the university (under the Security and Safety Office),
which was categorized as the Government Guard Unit, was excluded as a respondent
because the study focuses mainly on private security guards. The result of the study on
the effects of compensation on the work performance of the security guards, respondents agreed that they must show their supervisors that they were working hard
so that they would have a chance to be promoted. The researcher made some
recommendations for this research to conduct a seminar to elevate the security guards'
knowledge and skills and undergo a specialized program like life coaches and
investment advisers specializing in good money handling. Security guards need this
special seminar to budget their salaries wisely.
