Prototype Design of an Electro-Pneumatic Trainer Board
Area of Research
Abstract
Electro-pneumatics is successfully used in many areas of industrial automation,
production, assembly and packaging systems worldwide are driven by electro pneumatic control
systems. The unavailability of electro-pneumatic trainer board in CETD makes students not
aware of the importance on how pneumatic system are used in the industrial field. Having
Electro pneumatic trainer board in the technical laboratory will help students be familiarized on
the operation of the pneumatic system that will give them knowledge in the trouble shooting of
any equipment that is powered and operated by pneumatics system.
From this, the researchers came up with an idea of creating a Electro-pneumatic trainer
board using relays. The designed circuit of electro-pneumatic trainer board was composed of
different control elements just like relays, timers, switches, and indicator lights. The ac source is
converted by dc power supply to produce dc voltage to energize the components has a low
voltage rating. The relay has one or two more contacts to operate and control the motion of
cylinder. It used solenoid valve to control the advance and retract operation of the double acting
cylinder.
The evaluation results showed that the electro-pneumatic trainer board helped the
students in learning how to design and analyze the circuit. The testing results showed that the
prototype can operate simultaneously and functioning well. The outcome of the survey indicates
the necessity of the prototype.
