Travel Motivation of Potential Tourist in Mauban, Quezon: Basis for a Proposed Travel Guide

Abstract

The study sought to analyze the factors that can influence people to travel to Mauban, Quezon after the pandemic. It dealt with tourists’ motivation and application of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Specifically, the study sought to answers the following questions: 1) What are the travel motivations in terms of physical motivators; cultural motivators; interpersonal motivators; and status and prestige motivators?; 2) What are the perceived hindrances that will restrict people to travel in Mauban, Quezon?; and 3) Is there any significant difference on the travel motivation of the respondents when they are grouped according to profile? The researchers examined why tourists travel and what is the main motivation in choosing their destinations. The primary drivers for traveling are needs to escape from daily routine, workplace, but also social needs such as meeting other people and experiencing something unique or unusual. The researchers of the study used a descriptive survey research design to facilitate the study. The respondents of the study were future travelers based on their demographic profile. The product of this research is a travel guide that would help in the tourism of Mauban, Quezon that would identify possible factors emanating from the new normal setting that would likely shape the structure of the industry in the next stage. This research would contribute to the existing body of research regarding travel motivations and their perceptions for traveling to tourist destinations in a sense that it adds details and information about rural tourism. The study revealed that travelers are still motivated to travel despite after the pandemic and among the four motivators, the interpersonal motivator drives them the most. Travelling, being expensive and safety practices were the perceived hindrances .This study revealed that there is no significant difference on the travel motivation of the respondents when they are grouped according to profile. This study also provided recommendations on promoting the Mauban as tourist destination which provides an accessible, enjoyable, safe, and affordable place to visit. In sum, the results of this study provide knowledge to better understand the potential travelers as well as articulating the implications of this knowledge for the strategic planning of this tourism niche in Quezon.
