A PROPOSED REHABILITATION FACILITY FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN TAYABAS CITY
Area of Research
Abstract
Drug-related crimes are common in the Philippines. Illegal drug use is on the rise,
and it has worrying implications for the future. The government of the Philippines is
heading for a campaign after substance abusers and rehabilitation centers are
becoming a trend. There are 40 public and private rehabilitation centers in the
Philippines. Since the early days of Duterte's crackdown on drugs, the centers have
also been mired in congestion. There are people, fearing they will fall victim to police
raids or vigilante groups, have decided to go into rehab (Maretti, A. 2016, Dec 14). The
Province of Quezon has no current rehabilitation center that can provide services to the
community. Ideally, each province should have at least one rehabilitation center but the
reality is that there are only four existing regional rehabilitation centers around the
country. Lack of drug rehabilitation centers, as well as the poor success rate in helping
substance abusers, are lingering problems in the drug war (The Philippine Star 2016,
Aug 19). This study aimed to develop a rehabilitation facility for substance abuse and to apply therapeutic architecture standards which can give a more positive view in life. The
researcher used research and development design. Results show that the atmosphere
and design of a place can affect the psychology and mood of humans, psychiatric
clinics and rehab centers (Dewidar, 2016). Rehabilitation center will be beneficial not
only to the locality of Tayabas City but also to the Province of Quezon
