Abstract

The Proposed Disaster Resilient Low-Cost Housing for a Barangay in a Coastal Municipality which was to be located at Brgy. Rizal, Padre Burgos, Quezon is a disaster resilient low-cost housing. Padre Burgos, Quezon is a 4th class coastal municipality (Padre Burgos CLUP, 2016). Quezon Province is vulnerable to typhoons and the impacts of continuous landfall of typhoons are greatly felt in the Quezon, Province. Also, poverty and illegal settlements caused destruction of the environment, not only the forest lands but also the marine life. The purpose of this project was to prevent the increase of the destruction of lives and properties of the town residents and to provide proper housing units for them. It is also to ensure the safety of the residents of Padre Burgos, Quezon. Census (PDPFP, 2010) results show that 62.48% of the housing units in Quezon province have limited floor area of 30 square meters if not more. In 2010, about 40% of the occupied housing units in the province had outer walls made of concrete or brick stones which are not suitable for the settlements in the coastal of Padre Burgos, Quezon. The researcher came up with the proposed project to solve the problem of Padre Burgos, Quezon with the lack of proper housing. It would provide the community a proper and disaster resilient housing units. It would be safe for the people using it and would contribute to the improvement of the environmental condition. The solution that the researcher used is the Ecohousing (Coconuts Manila, January 2015) which is low cost but it does not cause a huge impact on the environment during and after construction. The disaster resilient methods were applied throughout the project.
