EFFECTS OF STRESS IN THE WORK PERFORMANCE AMONG POLICE OFFICERS: A CLOSER LOOK

Abstract

Stress is rapidly becoming one of the major problems of the society over the years. There are a lot of psychologists that conducted studies regarding on how a person can cope up with the stressors that he is experiencing. There is no exception for this problem, everyone experiences this from students to professional workers according to the environment that they are in. Police officers are also not exempted to stress leading them to do unlawful acts and blaming on the stress that they are experiencing. In regards to this, the Philippine National Police implemented a new regulation where in a police officer should undergo a process called Stress Management Program. This was implemented to ensure that every officer would be mentally fit for the job because being a PNP officer takes a lot to do the work efficiently for they are prone to deal with situations that may trigger stress and may affect their psychological health. In this study, the researchers determined the effects of stress in work performance of a police officer. The researchers gathered data by distributing survey questionnaires that contains questions that answered the raised question in this study. The researchers conducted the study in Candelaria, Quezon, thus, the respondents were from PNP Candelaria Station. The study needed fifty (50) respondents to have an accurate answer for the problem. The study is based on quantitative type of the research wherein the data gathered were analyzed through numerical statements. The researchers randomly selected respondents with the use of simple random sampling method. During the process of conducting the data gathering method, the researchers ensured the confidentiality of the information that will be given by the respondents. The findings of the has shown that most of the respondents’ stress are triggered by the heavy workload that comes with their job as a police officer. In this study, the researchers determined the effectivity of the performance of the police officer under stress.
