The Perception of the Society Toward Sexual Assault Victims

Abstract
Society's perception towards sexual assault determines victim-blaming and its rampant effect on a psychological and legal aspect to sexual assault victims. This further commissioned the prominent number of unreported sexual assault cases in the community through time. This study featured a descriptive method design that is compromised with a detailed illustration of a quantitative research methodology regarding the understanding of the society to victimization in connection to the attribution of sex crimes and their causes. Specifically, this determined the perception of the respondents, the victim-blaming related to sexual assault victims. A structured questionnaire was utilized to provide a data-gathering instrument that was formulated by the researchers and validated by the experts in the field of the study. The questionnaires were distributed to one hundred fifty (150) respondents chosen through a random sampling method. Moreover, the data gathered were tabulated and analyzed using frequency and percentage, mean and simple linear correlation analysis to determine the significant influence of the independent variables on the dependent variables. The research study recommends that the Local authorities must conduct and continue to inform their residents to educate them about victim-blaming, victimization, and sexual assault victims regardless of institutional and societal organization.
