EFFECTIVENESS OF CCTV CAMERAS IN PROMOTING CRIME PREVENTION CAMPAIGN

Abstract
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is vital to acquire visual surveillance for crime
prevention. The primary objective of a CCTV camera is to have an accurate visual
confirmation of a multitude of crime incidents in the community. This study examined the
role of CCTV effectiveness in the promotion of crime prevention campaigns. Using a
survey-type questionnaire, data were collected purposely from the sample of 50
respondents in Pagbilao Quezon. Those respondents who participated were business
owners and police officers. The computed arithmetic mean was utilized to predict the
effectiveness of CCTV on its function, importance, and effectiveness. The result of this
study indicates that CCTV is an important predictor for the promotion of crime
prevention. CCTV plays an important role in determining specific criminal activity. Based
on the respondents, closed-circuit television was found to be very effective in the
promotion of crime prevention, extremely important in crime fighting, and emphasized
enormous function in crime prevention. The study recommended conducting a similar
study about the effectiveness of CCTV in the promotion of crime prevention should be
conducted in a larger population for the generalizability of the study. The output of this study is an interactive seminar regarding the effectiveness of CCTV in promoting a
crime prevention campaign.
