Level of Knowledge in the Traffic Separation Scheme in Collision Regulations Among the Deck Department Seafarers
Area of Research
Abstract
International Maritime Organization believes that every seafarer must be knowledgeable enough about the existing regulations about the traffic regulation scheme. Moreover, seafaring companies must make sure that these regulations are properly implemented not just for the safety of their crew but for the safety of everyone exploring our oceans. Thus, this study sought to identify how knowledgeable seafarers are about the traffic separation scheme. Specifically, the study addressed the following objectives (a) to know the levels of knowledge in the traffic separation scheme in collision regulations among the deck department seafarers; (b) to determine the difficulties encountered by the seafarers in understanding the TTSs; (3) to investigate the level of implementation of TTS in their company. This study used the descriptive method to come up with specific and concrete results. Based on the information gathered from the respondents, the researchers found out that seafarers are knowledgeable about the existing Traffic Separation Scheme ruled by the International Maritime Organization or IMO; they do not encounter too many problems in following the following Traffic Separation Scheme and (3) companies highly implement the existing Traffic Separation Scheme ruled by the International Maritime Organization.
