Contributing Factors to Maritime Students’ Stress and Its Relationship in their Academic Performance

Abstract
1. This study assessed the main stressors of maritime students especially in the first year of their college level. It utilized the qualitative and quantitative-descriptive methods of research. The locale of this study was in Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) under the department of College of Maritime Education (CME). The respondents of the study were 100 4th class maritime students undertaking online class while encountering the factors of stress in MSEUF maritime students Batch (2020-2021). The researchers used a three (3) part structured type questionnaire. The first part is the academic performance of Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering students during SY 2020-2021. The second are the factors that contribute to the stress of Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering students in terms of family, relationship with others, self, and academics. The last part is the course of action to avoid stress and anxiety to minimize suicidal thoughts and other means of self-injury. The research instrument was in a google form to avoid direct contact with the respondents and observe the health protocols. Results show among the factors that contribute to the stress of Maritime students of MSEUF in terms of Family, it shows that the students get stressed Moderately. This implies that they can manage to handle the stress from their families while they are studying. Among the factors that contribute to the stress of Maritime students of MSEUF in terms of Relationships with others, it shows that the students get stressed Moderately also. This signifies that they can manage to handle the stress from their relationship with others while they are studying. Among the factors that contribute to the stress of Maritime students in terms of Academics, shows that the students are being stressed Moderately. This means that they can manage and handle stress from their Academics properly.
