Difficulties Encountered by the Women Seafarers to their Employment in the Merchant Vessel

This study determined the difficulties encountered by the women seafarers to their employment in the merchant vessel. The study focused on the challenges and difficulties of women seafarers in terms of employment, discrimination for female seafarers with regards to their capabilities in terms of physical, emotional, and social problems. The researchers investigated the women seafarers that took up maritime courses and who have experienced or encountered difficulties in their employment. The study was conducted in Lucena City, Province of Quezon, and the data was gathered by using an interview method by the researchers. This research study is under the qualitative-descriptive method. At the end of the study, the researchers were able to determine the qualifications of the women seafarers in a merchant vessel; what are the problems that a woman seafarer experienced in terms of physical, emotional, and social; and lastly the overcoming challenges.
