The Level of Effectiveness of Heutagogy in Distance Education as Perceived by Grade 6 Learners of Selected Schools in Lucena West District

Abstract
This study dealt with the perceptions of the grade 6 learners on the use of heutagogy. Heutagogy is a self-directed learning in which the learners have the autonomy in learning while the teachers serve as the facilitators of learning. There are 4 elements of heutagogy which were considered in this research including flexibility, agility, contracts, and equity. There was a total of 60 respondents who participated in this research. It was found out that the grade 6 learners are dominated by females and are regular grade 6 learners with the modal age of 12. They agreed that heutagogy is an effective teaching and learning strategy. The respondents perceived that heutagogy help in developing their flexibility and adherence to contracts. Through developing flexibility, they are being motivated to learn. In terms of adherence to contracts, they are able to participate in online classes/ activities. The learner respondents found heutagogy as an effective teaching and learning strategy. It allows the teacher to provide resources and direct instructions. The study recommends for the adoption and use of heutagogy in all grade levels across different genders. It also suggests for the development of online and self- directed learning activities that will allow enhancement of the abilities of the learners to compare and contrast and to make judgements. Finally, it recommends for the enhancement of online follow-up sessions and adoption of the action plan formulated based on the results.
