OPERATION MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF BUS COMPANIES IN A PHILIPPINE PROVINCIAL DISTRICT
Abstract
Public transportation, particularly the bus industry is one of the main modes of travel by the majority, given to its affordable fares, scheduled departures, etc. for decades. The study assessed the operation and management practices of bus companies in a Philippine provincial district. The research used a descriptive survey approach on gathering reliable and valid information from bus personnel, operators and commuters to thoroughly evaluate and analyze the extent and effectiveness of operation management practices. Results show that human resource, facility, and safety as aspects of the overall operation management practices greatly affect the overall operation management effectiveness all needing relevant enhancements, while reservation does not significantly impact the effectiveness of the bus companies included in the study.
