Effectiveness of Teacher Induction Program on the Development of the Competencies of Neophyte Teachers in MIMAROPA Region – Division of Marinduque: Basis for a Proposed Training Development Program

Abstract

This research study assessed the effectiveness of the Teacher Induction Program (TIP) on the development of competencies of 301 neophyte teachers in MIMAROPA region-Division of Marinduque through a mixed method type of research combining descriptive and phenomenology. Also, the study evaluated the TIP in terms of teacher commitment and retention, teachers’ classroom instructional practices, and student achievement hence found out that TIP has been more effective in its implementation. Likewise, the study also explored the challenges and strategies of the neophyte teachers in the development of their competencies and revealed that more challenges focused on the application and integration of important aspects corresponding to each Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) domain and were categorized into three main aspects such as professional environment, emotional or psychological effects, and instructional effects. There was no significant difference among the respondents’ strategies in developing their competencies when grouped according to their demographic profile. Through the results and findings drawn from the study, the researcher was able to develop the “Turong-Guro” Training Development Program on Teacher Induction Program as the study’s output. It was recommended that the mentioned output of the study should be utilized to support the competency-development of neophyte teachers in the DepEd MIMAROPA-Division of Marinduque.
