Stress Management Level of Engine Crews of Passenger Vessels in Dalahican Port
Area of Research
Abstract
This research aimed to determine thestress level of seafarers in a particular place. The data was gathered in Dalahican Port, Lucena City through descriptive research involving 28 respondents, specifically engine crews who participated and answered the survey questionnaire. Results showed that having integrity, good management of emotions, consideration, knowledge of problem solving, participation/empowerment, being personally accessible and sociable, with empathy, good conflict management and the use of organizational resources resulted in good handling of particular stressors. Basically, to achieve excellent management of stress a person must put consideration not only on himself but also on everything that can affect his coping with stress. Without an understanding of what causes and aggravates stress, seafarers would find it difficult to manage their stress level. Handling stress is a skill that must be developed on the job. Communicating one’s stress so that those who contribute as stressors can help is also one way of deflecting the stress level.
