Abstract

This study aimed to determine The Level of Awareness of Engine Crew Officer and Ratings about Safety in the Engine Room. The gathering of data was conducted in Dalahican Port, Lucena City. A total of 70 Crew officers and ratings respondents who have attended Safety awareness in ship training/seminars and and most of the respondents are 26 years old and above with lower ranks and were familiar to this field answered the survey questionnaire. Results revealed that the safety of awareness makes a good advance knowledge to the reader. This implies is a good effective and reliable in terms of creation maintenance, retrieval data, level of safety awareness of engine crew officers and ratings in the engine room. Meanwhile the problems encountered in the use of basic safety practices include the personnel in charge of it. Additional training to seafarers about basic safety on board will add to the cost of the seafarers budget, some applications that are not yet totally developed, considering that the success and reliability of information being human dependent. Since the SOLAS (intervention of safety of life at sea) is concerned in this matter, it is recommended that they should add a seminar or training regarding the safety of the seafarers, some of the respondents don’t have a fire extinguisher or first aid kit on board which is mandatory in every vessel. They should create an additional training to seafarers about basic safety on board and conducting a fastest and safest way to act in case of an emergency and they conduct an evaluation of safety awareness to identify the result of this research.
