EFFECTIVENESS OF AID TO NAVIGATION FOR MARITIME SAFETY AS PERCEIVED BY DECK OFFICERS

Abstract

This study focused on assessing the Effectiveness of Aid to Navigation for Maritime Safety as Perceived by Deck Officers. It employed the descriptive method of research wherein a survey was conducted to collect data from the sample. The study was conducted in some ports of Quezon province that is consisted of the port of Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City. There were a total of 50 randomly selected respondents who were part of the study. It was composed of deck officers in the said port. Simple percentage computation and weighted mean were used in the statistical analysis. Analysis of the results revealed that according to the deck officers in Dalahican Port in maneuvering in narrow channel the effective aids to navigation were as follows: lighthouse, beacon, fog signals and buoys and also in open sea. Some of their problems and dilemmas experience on board while navigating in narrow and open sea were as follows: fatigue, faulty standards, policies and practices, technological system, weather, wind, and current.
