EFFECTIVENESS OF AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM ON BOARDSHIP

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Automatic Control System on Boardship. The gathering of data was conducted in Lucena City through descriptive research. A total of 30 Marine engineers who had experienced the use of Automatic control system answered the survey questionnaire. Results revealed that Automatic control system really helps to increase the productivity of labor and the quality and accuracy of regulation and to free men from controlling systems that operate under the conditions which are relatively inaccessible or hazardous to health. This implies that the Automatic control system is really effective in terms of productivity and maintenance. Meanwhile, the problems encountered in using the Automatic control system include high cost in case in terms of installation and maintenance. It requires well trained or skilled maintenance personnel. Since almost all ships are using this system, it is recommended that the automation system onboard ship must be developed by the ship builders so that it will not be complicated at all and can be easily handled. The Automatic Control System evolvement must be beneficial in both enhancement of the technology and humanities. This must extend the capacity of the machines to perform certain tasks formerly done by human and prevent his exposure to any dangerous and hazardous work. It must also be more productive but will not affect the employment rate. Additional training on the part of all the seafarers must be conducted in order for them to be more familiar and for having enough knowledge in handling this Automatic Control System. They must have the perseverance to learn more about this system in order for them not to stack and left by the flow of the system. This system will be more powerful and more complicated as the time passed by.
