Gastronomy and Food Escape of Quezon Province, Philippines: A Case Study

Abstract

This study focused on Gastronomic Tourism in a provincial scale. Quezon is a province of the Philippines in the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region of Luzon island. It is becoming popularly known in the national level with the increasing numbers of visitors each year experiencing the delightful authentic dishes popular in the different municipalities of the province. The study explored Quezon’s gastronomic tourism and specifically identified the popular dishes, traced the local and authentic cuisine, and unfolded food festivals. The study is a descriptive research and data triangulation method was used in analyzing and confirming the results. Traveling, oral and physical investigations, immersion, eating, reviewing and attending workshop was done in completing the study with the coffee table book, inventory and documentary video as the outputs. The study concluded that in the Philippines, culture, traditions and resources have major contributions in the gastronomic tourism of the country. Also, in the CALABARZON region particularly in Quezon, coconut is really abundant and it makes all popular dishes in the province coconut based.
