OVERCROWDING IN JAIL: ITS IMPACT TO REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS
Area of Research
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the impact of the overcrowded jail
facility in rehabilitating the prisoners. Likewise, the study is bent on discovering
the problems, the ways, and strategies in managing the overcrowded facility.
In this study, the researchers utilized a descriptive method of research to
analyze the impact of an overcrowded jail facility in rehabilitation. This method involved the use of self-constructed questionnaire, gathering or collection of data,
tallying of the responses of the respondents, analysis, and interpretation of the
gathered data through the application of statistical analysis and procedures.
The researchers discussed some of the challenges encountered while
conducting research. Different approaches and strategies were found helpful to
facilitate the research process through the development of communication. The
researchers must maintain a positive relationship with the jail officers by
informing them of the status of the study as well as any problems encountered.
The surveying procedures and approaches have been proven successful to
researchers and can serve as guidelines for investigators in establishing and
maintaining high rate participation and high-quality data collection planning to
conduct research in this challenge research setting.
The result shows that most of the respondents are almost new in the
service; that the main reason for the overcrowding is the pending of the cases of
the inmates.
