Abstract
In the Philippines, illegal logging is the largest environmental crime that need
to be stopped. People live in the community did not notice and they didn't know what
are the risks of illegal logging. According to DENR illegal logging is the main reason
why our forest cover has decreased. However, there is a chance to reforest the
mother nature and make it resourceful by prevention and control. The cooperation of
the community in the programs which were implemented by DENR to develop the
forest is one way for the progress of our country. This study aims to determine the
effect of illegal logging and the factors contributed to illegal logging. In addition, the
study focused to help the community to understand the adverse effect of illegal
logging in their community. The researchers conducted a descriptive type of research
with the use of the questionnaire as an instrument in gathering data from the
respondents. One hundred respondents (100) from Pagbilao, Quezon Province, but
at least twenty one years and above who were considered as the respondents for the research study. By this study, the researcher determined and analyzed the effects of
illegal logging and they can use it as a guideline for protecting and preserving the
forest to become resourceful. The researcher distributed the instrument and clarified
the answers of the respondents from the community of Quezon Province. However,
the possible result of the study will help the DENR and other organization to
implement a program or law that can address the illegal activities against the forest.
The research study reveals that the most program known of the respondents
was the checkpoint with 90 responds in preventing the illegal logging in their
community, also the respondents strongly agree that the depletion of trees in the
mountains leads to landslides was the most effects of illegal logging and factors that
contributed to illegal logging was the light penalties for the overruns of illegal trees
cutting are a cause so they do not stop doing so. The respondent, generally agree
about the adverse effect of illegal logging on their community.
However, the DENR should raise the awareness of the people in the
community to prevent the illegal logging through conducting the seminar in the
community like the effects of illegal logging to know the consequence of depletion of
