Abstract

The study aimed to determine the Barangay Police in Lucena City as a force multiplier of the PNP. The specific objectives were centered on the demographic profile of the barangay police and the common problems that they encountered as a force multiplier of the PNP. It also aimed to identify the functions of the barangay police in the performance of their duty as force multiplier of the PNP in terms of prevention and control of crime. Lastly, the researchers sought to determine the possible measures to resolve the common problems encountered by the barangay police. As force multipliers, they are expected to be at the community to help solving problems and providing initial actions in any crimes in the barangay. The researchers found out that the barangay police has a great help in ensuring peace and order in the barangay. Barangay police also helped in the execution of warrants and other judicial processes such as tracking the whereabouts of missing persons, arresting escaped prisoners and other fugitives from justice, and recovering stolen properties. Police also closely coordinated to the barangay police in the drive against all forms of crimes such as terrorism, smuggling, carnapping, drug trafficking, drug pushing, illegal gambling, child abuse, crime against women, all forms of vices, and syndicated crimes. The researchers used a survey questionnaire for the five selected barangays in Lucena City and used the quantitative research design which is descriptive in nature. There were 100 barangay police officers. The researchers aimed to propose a program design relative to the barangay police as force multiplier.
