THE EFFECTS OF CHILD ABUSE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR OF A CHILD AS PERCEIVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Today, child abuse results in improper personality development wherein child victims develop anti-social behavior or delinquent. The study aimed to determine the reasons for child abuse; to determine the significant contributions of child abuse in the development of antisocial behavior of a child in terms of emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual aspects; and to identify the impact of child abuse in the development of anti-social behavior of a child. The researchers used a quantitative research design and a descriptive survey method survey in data gathering wherein the respondents are composed of Department of Social Welfare and Development personnel who handles any kind of child abuse cases wherein the researchers convinced that the social workers of the DSWD are knowledgeable and packed of experienced that can produce accurate results. Results show that child abuse gives an impact to the child personality development commonly the development of their anti-social behavior which causes them to do acts of delinquents like disrespecting their parents or elders through speaking of foul words, drinking liquor, taking illegal drugs, and other vices, vandalize and develop quarrelsome to others wherein the researchers recommend the DSWD to perform their responsibilities as a helping hands of the youth and provide different therapy that will help the child to determine what is right and wrong behavior so that they will avoid become delinquent just like anger management that is a part of cognitive therapy.
