TRAVEL MOTIVATION OF SELECTED HIKERS IN QUEZON PROVINCE ABOUT MOUNT CRISTOBAL AS A DARK TOURISM DESTINATION

Abstract
Dark tourism is a tourism phenomenon that is being drawn to
attractions that have a dark historical past. These attractions are memorials of
different kinds where death, tragedy and suffering have occurred. In the beginning
of this thesis the definition of Dark tourism is presented and the main focus of this
research is to reveal the motivation of tourists behind their decision on visiting and
hiking in such place. Also to raise awareness about Mount Cristobal in Dolores,
Quezon as one of the Dark tourism destination, a mountain that falls under dark
tourism since it is considered as the ?Devil‘s Mountain? by local residents and
even by mountain hikers.
