Completed2017

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of awareness of collision regulation among maritime officers in Dalahican Port, Lucena City. The gathering of data was conducted in the Lucena City Dalahican Port. A total of 43 seafarers who have years of experience being officers answered the survey questionnaire. Results revealed that the level of awareness of the officers regarding the collision regulation has a big effect when they are experiencing fatigue due to workload overload, equipment condition, and time of duty. This implies that the officers perform on their watch with all possible means by sight and hearing. Meanwhile, the problems encountered by the officers that affect their level of awareness are the manoeuvrability of the ship because of weather conditions, undermanned ship, and laziness in time of duty. Since the safety of the ship and the life of the crew is concerned, it is recommended that they develop more awareness through a monthly drill to develop their skills and the level of their awareness. Moreover, they should conduct an inspection of their ship and crew to ensure that they follow the rules and regulation to prevent accidents caused by the manoeuvrability of the ship because of weather conditions.
